Manhattan ranks as one of the most exciting small cities in the United States.
Of course, we’re talking about Manhattan, Kansas.
The lesser-known Manhattan was one of four Midwest cities that made the Movoto real estate blog’s list of the top 10 most exciting small cities in the country.
Also on the list was La Crosse, Wis., at number two; Lakewood, Ohio at seven; Royal Oak, Mich., at eight; and, of course, Manhattan, Kansas, at six.
The top city on the list? Hoboken, N.J.
What makes these Midwest small cities so exciting? According to Movoto, La Crosse scored high for its active nightlife and its young population. Manhattan ranks high largely because it’s a fun college town, home of Kansas State University. It also has a lot of young people and a busy nightlife.
Lakewood, a suburb of Ohio, also boasts a strong nightlife scene. It also has plenty of quirky independent restaurants. According to Movoto, only 7 percent of restaurants in Lakewood are chains.
